Brigna Purin-a: Pavarolo promotes its traditional local product
27th Edition of the Brigna Purin-a Festival in Pavarolo. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, “Piazzetta del Campanile” will be filled with stalls from farmers, artisans, and artists for the entire duration of the event. Many activities will celebrate the Brigna Purin-a, a variety of plum and an excellence of the Distretto del Cibo Chierese-Carmagnolese. At 3:00 PM, there will be a visit to the Felice Casorati Studio Museum to view “Beldy seta, cotone, lana, and raso,” an exhibition by English artist Mabel Hardy Maugham. At 4:30 PM, a guided walk through the orchards with Asd Nordic Walking will take place, meeting at the Olmetto square. This will be a 5 km walk, lasting about 2 hours on dirt roads. Starting at 5:30 PM, there will be performances by young singers, and at 6:30 PM, a meeting with the mayors and the presentation of the project: PISTAAA – The Blue Way of Piedmont. This network of pedestrian and cycle paths represents a step forward in promoting sustainable mobility. During the explanation, details and objectives for its implementation will be presented. Finally, from 7:00 PM, it will be possible to taste the street food of the brigna, organized by the Pro Loco. Brigna Purin-a: An Excellence of the Distretto The Brigna Purin-a is a variety of plum, typical of the Pavarolo area, also known as the “San Giovanni plum.” It is as small as an olive, and its uniqueness lies in its early ripening. It is part of the local agricultural heritage, representing an example of agricultural biodiversity to be preserved. The plant from which the Brigna Purin-a comes requires few treatments, making the fruit an ideal choice for sustainable and organic farming. The plant’s ability to thrive with minimal intervention and its natural propagation emphasize an environmentally friendly agricultural approach. In this way, not only are natural resources preserved, but greater resilience of agricultural ecosystems is also promoted, further supporting local communities.
