The Asparisagra celebrates its 91st edition from May 17th to May 26th, 2024. This event, dedicated to the vegetable symbol of the city of Camillo Cavour, will take place in Piazza Martiri della Libertà in Santena. The center of Santena comes alive with a series of cultural, entertainment, and above all gastronomic activities.
Throughout the duration of the festival, starting at 7 p.m. and at 12 p.m. on weekends, it will be possible to taste typical dishes based on asparagus, the protagonist of the event.
Organised by the Santena Pro Loco, the Asparisagra not only highlights the culinary qualities of the product but also values its history and agricultural tradition of the area. Asparagus is protected by the Association of Asparagus Producers of Santena and the Terre del Pianalto.
Events like these represent an opportunity to immerse oneself in the agricultural peculiarities of the area, appreciating its culture and supporting the local economy.
Events, markets, and activities of the Asparisagra
The opening night on Friday, May 17th will feature a show cooking and the traditional investiture ceremony of the Santena masks, the Bela Sparsera and ‘I so Ciatarin. Additionally, there will be numerous evening events with dances and music catering to all musical tastes.
On Saturdays, May 18th and 25th, the Tricolore Night and the White Night will take place, with events and celebrations for the city. On Sundays, May 19th and 26th, the market will liven up the streets of Santena. Also on May 19th, you can discover the agri-food specialties of the Distretto del Cibo Chierese-Carmagnolese.
The last Sunday, May 26th, will be enriched by two historical parades, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, spanning from the Middle Ages to the Cavourian Risorgimento and from Piedmont to Calabria.
